Yearly Rookie Draft

Each year, a three round draft will be held for the season’s incoming rookies at a date between March and September. Rookies may not be acquired from waivers until the draft is completed.

Draft Order

The draft order will be determined by the previous year’s standing. The consolation bracket will be playing for a higher draft position. The winner of the bracket will be rewarded with the #1 overall pick in the next year’s draft.

The draft picks are assigned in such a way to encourage teams to try and win throughout the entirety of the post-season, while still giving teams who perform poorly early draft selections.

Draft selections are as follows:

Draft Rounds and Eligible Draftees

The draft will run for three rounds. Teams are not required to participate in the draft, and may choose to only make two, one, or zero selections if they wish. Teams may choose from the new season’s rookies.

Compensatory Picks

Additional compensatory draft picks may be assigned in rare situations. A compensatory pick is justified if a player who is deemed to have meaningful value is suddenly forced to leave the league due to circumstances that include but are not limited to: death, incarceration, sudden severe injury, and unforeseen retirement.

Compensatory picks will always occur at the very end of the first round of the rookie draft (pick 1.17). They are not re-assigned from any other team, but are instead special additional picks that are added to the draft. Compensatory picks may not be traded.

If you believe you or another team are entitled to a compensatory draft pick, you may petition the commissioner for one. The commissioner may either reject or accept your petition. If your petition is accepted, the league will be called to vote against the compensatory pick. If under 50% of the league votes against the pick, then it will be awarded at the next draft.

Commissioners may propose a compensatory pick without waiting for a petition, but the pick must still be voted on following the procedure above.

Reasons a commissioner may reject a petition for a compensatory pick include but are not limited to: the lost player’s exit from the NFL was not unforeseen; the lost player was not of meaningful value; the lost player may return to the NFL in the near future.
