This year, the Nilbog Fantasy League is introducing a series of new awards focused on individual players. These awards come with nothing except bragging rights. There may not be any monetary compensation, but nothing is stopping you from nicknaming Josh Jacobs “2019 Rookie of the Year” in Sleeper to flex.
These honors are awarded by the Nilbog Associated Press (NAP), and are given for achievements during the regular season. Post-season performances are not considered. Each member of NAP submits a ballot with their top three selections for each accolade. A member’s top choice contributes 3 points to the player in that category. Their second choice contributes 2 points, and their third choice contributes 1 point.
The player with the most points in a category wins the award. In the event there is a tie, a runoff ballot is used and the NAP members vote again on the narrowed candidate pool. If a winner still can not be determined after runoff, the accolade is shared between players.
Awards that are currently scheduled to be presented at the end of the 2021 season are as follows:
- Most Valuable Player – The most valuable asset in dynasty fantasy football as of the end of the regular season.
- Player of the Year – The player who has had the largest positive impact on their team over the course of the regular season.
- Rookie of the Year – The most impressive rookie from that year’s draft class.
- Over-Performer of the Year – The player who has most out-performed pre-season expectations.
- Comeback Player of the Year – A player who has shown perseverance in overcoming adversity, such as in the form of not being in the NFL the previous year; a severe injury; or simply poor performance.
Additional awards may be added in the future.
