Are you ready for hot takes, cold takes, and takes nobody cares about? Let me don the Mel Kiper Jr. mask I normally reserve for role play and share the definitive 2020 Nilbog mock draft.
| Pick | Team | Player | Pos. | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.01 | Chris Hogan Sucks 2.0 | Clyde Edwards-Helaire | RB | Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the clear #1 in this draft. Sure, there’s arguably more talented prospects, but the dream scenario was Kansas City taking a running back in the first – and they did. This team is rebuilding, and CEH gives them an ideal back to build around. |
| 1.02 | Cameron Mitchell’s Empire | Jonathan Taylor | RB | The Empire’s situation outside of RB is fine, but their ground game is in a complete rebuild for some reason. Jonathan Taylor gives the team an elite prospect to anchor their new generation of ball carriers. |
| 1.03 | FoxyRoxy | D’Andre Swift | RB | This team needs help at every position, but running back might be where they’re strongest. Still, the rebuilding process is a multi season one, and D’Andre Swift makes sure they take the highest regarded player (or trade piece) available. Alternatively, the team could try to trade back and take one of the top receivers, while demanding another rebuilding piece as compensation. |
| 1.04 | Cameron Mitchell’s Empire | J.K. Dobbins | RB | Jonathan Taylor was a nice start, but the team is going to need more than a single ball carrier to rebuild their running back corps. |
| 1.05 | RKMay | Cam Akers | RB | RKMay’s receivers could use bolstering, but I predict the team doesn’t pass up the opportunity to select a tier 2 back to stay competitive in The Denny. Taking a tier 1 receiver would a add starter for years to come; but running backs win championships. |
| 1.06 | Cameron Mitchell’s Empire | CeeDee Lamb | WR | The Empire’s receiving corps is great, but now that the second tier of running backs is gone, why not grab the top rated receiver in the draft? Not to mention, they’ve already taken two RBs. |
| 1.07 | BeauAustin | Jerry Jeudy | WR | BeauAustin is sneakily one of the stronger teams at RB, so they can take advantage of Jerry Jeudy slipping to seventh and improve their shaky group of wide outs. |
| 1.08 | Chris Hogan Sucks 2.0 | Henry Ruggs III | WR | Ke’Shawn Vaughn is a risky bet with immediate impact potential, but the team already grabbed CEH to start the draft, and Henry Ruggs has a chance to be a roster mainstay for years to come on this rebuilding team. |
| 1.09 | PlumbobSquarepants | Jalen Reagor | WR | Plumbob needs help at every position, but didn’t land a draft position high enough to take an impact running back. Jalen Reagor has the potential to be a perennial top sixteen WR, and lets the team worry about addressing RB next year. There’s also a chance the team chooses Joe Burrow in case Nick Foles doesn’t get the starting job in Chicago – otherwise they’ll only have one QB. |
| 1.10 | LBTown | Justin Jefferson | WR | LBTown needs the most help at receiver, and luckily there’s plenty of great tier two receivers available. |
| 1.11 | Cameron Mitchell’s Empire | Ke’Shawn Vaughn | RB | The Empire has already taken two running backs, but that’s exactly what allows them to take a risk on Ke’Shawn Vaughn. |
| 1.12 | Chris Hogan Sucks 2.0 | Denzel Mims | WR | There’s not much enticing at running back here, but that’s alright. C.H.S. needs WR improvement badly; Mims provides more depth. |
| 1.13 | JacobsJingleheimerSchmidt | Joe Burrow | QB | This was the hardest projection yet. J.J.S. already boasts the league’s best running back corps, and possibly the strongest group of receivers. There’s a chance the team takes a receiver here instead to replace the presumed loss of production by Tyrell Williams, but I expect a QB. It may seem ridiculous – the team already has four starting quarterbacks – but let’s break them down. 1. Drew Brees: Due to retire any year now. 2. Teddy Bridgewater: Has yet to prove himself as a long term starter in the NFL. 3. Gardner Minshew: A fun meme machine, but most outlets were shocked Jacksonville didn’t take a QB to at least challenge him this year. 4. Dwayne Haskins: Below mediocre so far; begging to be replaced. Burrow would give this team a premier starting QB in the event several of the team’s existing options don’t pan out. And if they do, J.J.S. can always trade one or two away. |
| 1.14 | What’s A Gronk | Tee Higgins | WR | This team has a lot of needs, but they’re going to be in a multi season rebuilding process. The best option here is one of the receivers left in this tier. A guy like Tee Higgins adds a potential WR2 for the team to keep as a key roster piece for the future. |
| 1.15 | The Butt Fumblers | Zack Moss | RB | The Fumblers already have a very respectable group of receivers. And while their list of running backs is a mile long, it’s only an inch deep. I think this team grabs a running back who was rated highly going into the draft, and has a chance to add depth to their ground game. |
| 1.16 | HadSomethingForThis | Tua Tagovailoa | QB | H.S.F.T. may have come out as Nilbog Champion in 2019, but everything about their team looks precarious going into 2020. Still, the team has just enough running back and receiving depth to get them through another year. Meanwhile, they only have one QB who is starting in the NFL – so they’ll be SOL if Russell Wilson gets injured. Tua Tagovailoa fixes that concern immediately. |
| 2.01 | The Hunt for Moore Chubb | Brandon Aiyuk | WR | The Hunt is a team looking to contend this year, lacking a star QB and WR depth. With the top tier of QBs off the board, the team opts to add WR depth. |
| 2.02 | Worst Team I’ve Ever Made | Michael Pittman | WR | Worst Team needs help at every position. Justin Herbert would make sense so the team could be prepared in case he takes Tyrod Taylor’s job; but I predict the team goes best-player-available and takes Michael Pittman. |
| 2.03 | FoxyRoxy | Laviska Shenault | WR | After adding a top running back in the first, I expect FoxyRoxy to round out the the team with a high upside WR in Laviska Shenault. |
| 2.04 | The Hunt for Moore Chubb | A.J. Dillon | RB | This G.M. could opt for an insurance policy on WR depth here, but I anticipate he’ll make a move to try and lock up Green Bay’s potential 2021 running back. |
| 2.05 | Cameron Mitchell’s Empire | Antonio Gibson | RB | As previously stated, this draft is all about rebuilding the RB corps for The Empire. Gibson increases the team’s chances of winning the battle for the Washington backfield. |
| 2.06 | JacobsJingleheimerSchmidt | Bryan Edwards | WR | Bryan Edwards is a bit of a steal this low. Compound that with the G.M.’s preference for Raiders, and this is a great chance to add a prospect to the team’s WR corps after taking a QB in the first round. |
| 2.07 | BeauAustin | Justin Herbert | QB | BeauAustin has four quarterbacks, but only one is starting. Herbert should take the starting job from Tyrod Taylor at some point, so this adds a young and talented QB for the team to move forward with. |
| 2.08 | The Butt Fumblers | Anthony McFarland Jr. | RB | Two dart throws are better than one. I predict The Fumblers take another RB to pair with Zack Moss in hopes that at least one develops into a starter. |
| 2.09 | PlumbobSquarepants | Darrynton Evans | RB | After taking a receiver earlier in the draft, I expect Plumbob to take a running back before the dropoff to the next tier of RBs. |
| 2.10 | RKMay | Chase Claypool | WR | This team is setup pretty well after taking a top running back in the first. They could take another rusher, (maybe Lamical Perine to handcuff Bell?), but considering the steep dropoff in quality at this point, I project them to take a WR who has fallen to them. Plus, this allows the G.M. to potentially handcuff JuJu Smith-Schuster. |
| 2.11 | Morgan’s McCaffreys 2.0 | Antonio Gandy-Golden | WR | The McCaffreys are doing well at everything, but could use some depth at WR. A.G.G. is a potential handcuff for their premier wide out Terry McLaurin. |
| 2.12 | Hobbster | K.J. Hamler | WR | Hobbster is teetering on the edge of struggling at WR depth, which Hamler adds. Alternatively, the team could seek to choose Trey Burton’s replacement in Cole Kmet. |
| 2.13 | Worst Team I’ve Ever Made | Deejay Dallas | RB | This team took a WR earlier in the second, so this is a chance for them to take a dart throw at a potential future starting running back. |
| 2.14 | Chris Hogan Sucks 2.0 | Cole Kmet | TE | At this point, C.H.S has addressed running back and receiver. Kmet gives the team a young TE to use going forward, and gives them flexibility to trade Zack Ertz for rebuilding pieces. |
| 2.15 | FishHouseChicken | Tyler Johnson | WR | FishHouse may have been runner up in 2019, but they’re paying the price in 2020, not getting their first pick in the draft until #31. Tyler Johnson is a safe pick that potentially handcuffs the team’s star receiver, Chris Godwin. |
| 2.16 | HadSomethingForThis | Van Jefferson | WR | After fixing their QB situation, Van Jefferson adds a prospect with high 2021 potential to help this team stay in the championship picture beyond this year. |
| 3.01 | JacobsJingleheimerSchmidt | Lynn Bowden Jr. | RB | Bowden is a high upside running back, and the perfect opportunity for J.J.S. to handcuff Josh Jacobs. |
| 3.02 | Worst Team I’ve Ever Made | Devin Duvernay | WR | Duvernay is far from a surefire hit, but he’s a great prospect to try and rebuild this team’s group of receivers. |
| 3.03 | Morgan’s McCaffreys 2.0 | Quintez Cephus | WR | The McCaffreys may have already chosen Gandy-Golden, but Cephus adds a receiver with a potential impact in 2021. |
| 3.04 | Worst Team I’ve Ever Made | Joshua Kelley | RB | Joshua Kelley has some fantasy experts enamored as a sleeper, while some are already declaring him irrelevant. After taking a RB earlier in the draft, Worst Team can afford the lotto ticket. |
| 3.05 | RKMay | Lamical Perine | RB | RKMay doesn’t pass up the chance to handcuff Le’Veon with Lamical Perine, his potential replacement. |
| 3.06 | What’s A Gronk | Eno Benjamin | RB | Gronk managed to grab a WR in the first, so Benjamin adds a lotto ticket running back that could be meaningful to their rebuild late ron. |
| 3.07 | BeauAustin | Adam Trautman | TE | A New Orleans tight end that should be ready to shine in a couple years, just in time to ease the team’s tight end worries when Jimmy Graham is gone. |
| 3.08 | What’s A Gronk | Raymond Calais | RB | I’ve said it before – two dart throws are better than one. Raymond Calais probably won’t ever be fantasy relevant, but Gronk stashes him on the practice squad just in case he is. |
| 3.09 | The Hunt for Moore Chubb | Jordan Love | QB | After not addressing QB earlier, The Hunt team grabs Jordan Love in case Aaron Rodgers is ever injured or traded. |
| 3.10 | Worst Team I’ve Ever Made | Brycen Hopkins | TE | Worst Team is thin at TE, so Hopkins should ensure Higbee is handcuffed. |
| 3.11 | Morgan’s McCaffreys 2.0 | Donovan Peoples-Jones | WR | Considering the lack of running backs left, the McCaffreys opt to take another three name receiver. |
| 3.12 | Hobbster | Darnell Mooney | WR | Another receiver that Hobbster can stash on their practice squad in case he starts to make an impact in Chicago. |
| 3.13 | LBTown | Gabriel Davis | WR | Another receiver that LBTown can stash on their practice squad in case he starts to make an impact in Buffalo. |
| 3.14 | The Hunt for Moore Chubb | Collin Johnson | WR | Another receiver that The Hunt can stash on their practice squad in case he starts to make an impact in Jacksonville. |
| 3.15 | FishHouseChicken | Jalen Hurts | QB | This is a pretty no-brainer pick. There’s not a lot available at this point, so why not keep an insurance policy for Carson Wentz on your practice squad? |
| 3.16 | HadSomethingForThis | Devin Asiasi | TE | H.S.F.T. only has two tight ends, so Asiasi gives them a Belichick-lotto-ticket to keep on the practice squad. |
